A Win Win Idea for Personal Trainers and You - from Carl Daikeler

I just got off a radio interview with one of our newest coaches, Neil Anderson, a trainer and radio host of The Health and Fitness Zone in Salt Lake City. During the conversation, we came up with the concept of how trainers can actually expand their business and better serve their clients by becoming MDB coaches.

First the premise: I think personal trainers deliver a valuable service helping people learn about fitness and learn good form. But I think part of their job is to get people on a personal program that they can execute on their own, without the trainer’s help counting reps.

And for anyone who is a trainer, you know how fixed the income potential is - you’re locked into the hours you work. Let’s say you can effectively serve 5 clients a day, 6 days a week. That’s a total of 30 client hours a week, and you ONLY get paid if there is no cancellation. Here’s the problem — the only way to expand is either work longer hours, or increase your rate.

Instead, trainers should do is (1) work toward signing up ten new clients a month to train, to be members in the Million Dollar Body Club, and Coaches so their sessions with you can eventually pay for themselves.

(2) You will put them on a 90 day program like Power 90, Turbo Jam, P90X, or Slim in 6, depending on their preferences, but you only train them for the first few weeks of it to make sure their form is accurate and they stay consistent.

(3) You take their before photos and measurements, and get them to set-up their online profile in the club.

(4) You make sure they log every workout, so you can check up on their progress, and they are eligible to win the daily WOWY prize up to $1,000.

(5) You make sure they use the diet tool to track their food.

(6) In exchange for your helping them become independently healthy, part of that client’s job is to refer you two more people (some will, some won’t. Some will refer a ton of people - when they get results and brag about how they did it on their own, with YOUR help!)

(7) You set the appointment for you to get together to take their 30 day progress photos and measurements. That locks them into accountability.

( 8) You make sure they enter their results in t the Million Dollar Body Game - since they could win $1,000 to $10,000 bucks every month if they make progress - and you as a coach will get rewarded too!

(9) You sign-up their referrals (either under them as a coach, or under you if they’re not a coach) and do the same thing with these referrals. The tree grows!

Here’s how the math works (without getting into the income of it, which would be substantial):

Instead of serving ten to fifteen clients in all the time you have, your new goal is to sign up ten new people a month, with the help of client referrals. You’re still always training ten or so people a month, but once they have learned the program with your help, they are on your maintenance program (including supplements if you feel it appropriate) and your earnings from your clients becomes passive, rather than direct trainer-earnings.

So at the end of the year, you have at least 120 clients, calling you from time to time for refreshers and to take progress photos/measurements. After two years you have over 240 clients, plus all the coaches your clients have now signed up on their own. THAT’S A BUSINESS! You’ve created your own network of peer support; People who are thanking YOU for getting them started on the right path, and for helping them achieve it under their own power for the long term.

You make more money. They are rewarded for getting healthy and referring people into the program. And EVERYONE is a more independent healthy human being. if I were a trainer, that’s the way I would approach it. And if I were a coach, I would call every trainer in the phone book and pitch this concept. people don’t need help counting reps, they need to be empowered to succeed on their own once they know what they’re doing!

By the way, this same formula works for doctors who see patients that need help losing weight, gyms, chiropractors, and nutritionists. The point here is to empower people to be independently healthy, and you reap the rewards in every way!

Thanks to Neil for helping inspire this concept!

The Day After The Super Bowl

Carl Daikeler has an interesting theory, presented here, that people are now waiting until after the Super Bowl to start their resolutions, given the drop in people actually starting their resolutions on New Year’s Day. Let’s see what the CEO has to say:

Running a weight loss and fitness company for almost ten years now, you get to see trends. One thing the industry generally takes for granted is that New Year’s is the day people kick off their new diets, and focus on losing the weight they’ve gained since Halloween launched the “60 day season of consumption”.

Year after year, though, I have seen a reduction in that spike of demand on Jan 1st. In fact, I believe this year we will see clear indication that there is a new official start date for the diet season; Monday, Feb 4th… the day after the Super Bowl.

In my house, consumption on Super Bowl Sunday can be as fabulously obscene as Thanksgiving. In terms of the saturated fat, sugar (from soda and alcohol) and the sheer duration of the media marathon, I would argue that throughout the country, the four hour event can be the largest day of consuming empty calories of the year. Americans double their average daily snack food consumption on Super Bowl Sunday, according to the Snack Food Association. 7-Eleven claims a 20% increase in sales of antacid the day after the Super Bowl.

Which is why many people now don’t get serious about losing the winter weight until the day after the big game.

That’s not bad news - it’s just our current reality. So, it’s an opportunity to get ready to do things right this year, with that reality in mind.

You now have 30 days to prepare, and then join us for what we have dubbed: February 4th - National “Before” Day!

February 4th - Carl Daikeler Invites You to National “Before Day”

It is named as such because, this year, that Monday is about starting your weight loss cycle the right way - with the kind of accountability that we know leads to real success. The “Before photo” gives you instant accountability. (If you want to drive to a new destination, the directions you get depend on where you start. You can’t get THERE, until you know where HERE is. That’s why the before photo and measurements are so important. Please trust me on this!)

It will be easy to blow off any weight loss program, unless you have a photo of yourself in a swimsuit to show you your reality. Until you know what your waistline measurement is (measuring it two or three times, because you just can’t believe the number) you won’t truly be motivated to stay with the program. This is when you realize, your jeans actually haven’t been shrinking, you have been expanding into them.

Then the goal is simple: Commit to exercise at least 20 times in 30 days, and control your portions, and you will see results in your photo and measurements when you retake them around March 6th (Day 30!).

You can even add a layer of motivation on top of that “before” photo by considering it the first step of your entry into the Million Dollar Body Game. We have over 90 contestants who won up to $10,000 each last year as they submitted their photos and stories to qualify for the grand prize, $250,000 to be awarded this March in a huge event in Anaheim, CA.

This year it’s your turn. Upload your “before” photo, and update your “after” every thirty days. be determined to win. Enter your results every month. You never know what the competition will be like that month, and you just might win for showing incredible persistence and getting those results. THAT’S MOTIVATION!

Our coaches will be repeating this theme for the next 30 days, lining up friends and family to kick-off their new programs the day after the biggest kick off of the year, Super Bowl Sunday.

So go ahead and enjoy the playoffs… in the meantime, here’s what you need to do to get prepared for National “Before Photo” Day,2008:

1. Pick the program that you will start on Monday the 4th, and join the Million Dollar Body Club.

2. Note the food that you intend to get rid of AFTER the Super Bowl. No turning back. Feb 4th, the junk goes out the door.

3. Make your 30 day plan: (a) Set up your workout space, (b) plan your workout calendar in WOWY for the first month, and (c) invite people to workout with you so you stay accountable to them.

4. If you really want to make a go of it, sign up as a coach. The point to coaching is not that you are a fitness expert, but that you understand that being accountable to people is how you stay with a program. You could sign up people at your Super Bowl party and make that pre-weight loss event! The bottom line is, our coaches are the glue that helps people who want the convenience of working out at home get better results than the loners who trek to the gym when it’s convenient.

Those, of course, are my recommendations. For you, February 4th National “Before Photo” Day might just mean you stop overeating, and start walking once a day. However you make it work, I hope you kick it off right, by taking your “Before photo” and measurements, and getting serious about getting fit and healthy in 2008.

Follow these instructions, and by summer, you’ll have an “After Photo” that will blow you away!

Results Based Motivation To Succeed

I’m Carl Daikeler, CEO of Product Partners, a marketing company which has specialized in developing fitness and weight loss products under the Beachbody brand since 1998.  My CEO motivation was to become a “walking billboard” for the business, and it occurred to us that my CEO-motivation to succeed could be replicated by other customers if we created a “business opportunity” model making customers the CEO of their own fitness and weight loss store. The result is The Million Dollar Body Network - where customers become coaches, with their own storefront, a steady flow of prospects, and the best pricing on the most visible fitness systems on television.

What is exciting about that is, there is no shortage of prospects. We hear a lot about the growing epidemic of obesity. 60 Million people in the US qualify as “obese”, and tens of million more as overweight. Now with your participation on this new level, by finding your inner CEO-motivation to succeed, we might have enough incentive to replace the epidemic of disease and debt with an “Epidemic of Fitness, Health and Wealth“.

The Million Dollar Body Network (MDB) is an exclusive peer-to-peer business opportunity giving coaches a commission for helping us keep new customers on track and for generating sales of Beachbody’s products. It is a bold initiative in an industry that is hypnotized by its thinking the only marketable solutions are gym memberships, equipment gimmicks, and diet fads. In this way, I hope MDB will represent a redistribution of millions of dollars of wealth from gyms and fad brokers to the people who do the REAL heavy lifting of motivation; To the customers-turned coaches who help people to keep pushing play and eating right each day!

That’s how MDB is the first network marketing business of its kind - rewarding members for getting results through the Million Dollar Body Game, and rewarding coaches for helping every individual stay with it, to stay true to their desire to get lean and healthy!

The only people that lose in this scenario are the ones who still don’t get it, who continue to chase every miracle pill or diet fad expecting to get different results. The MDB Network is about encouraging participation in what works: Fitness, proper nutrition, and peer support. That’s the combination that has lined the walls of Beachbody with incredible success stories.

Peer support works. Whether you are trying to change how you eat, get active, quit smoking or change any stubborn habit, by surrounding yourself with people who help you stay on track your odds of success are a lot better than if you try to go it alone. And MDB was borne from a desire Beachbody co-founder Jon Congdon and I share to increase the role the community plays in helping people find those like-minded people. We’ve seen over and over again that the customers who have the most dramatic transformations tend to be those that seek and provide real peer support within the message boards, WOWY, and the Million Dollar Body Club.

Imagine how the momentum of real lifestyle change could build if more people were helping each other achieve their goals, and this simple and effective model really catches on! If you see more people around losing weight, and earning a substantial paycheck each week for doing so, wouldn’t you be motivated to become a coach, keep pushing play, and become your own walking billboard too? Now you can see the epidemic I’m talking about!

The management team of MDB, led by experienced network marketer (and now Power 90 enthusiast) Chris Simonian knows the important balance between business opportunity and the legacy of non-judgmental support within our community.

Nobody wants to be out of shape or overweight. But a closet full of meal replacement powder is not the answer to long term weight loss. That’s why our solution is so marketable where people are otherwise suspicious of peer-to-peer marketing. We know our model actually works. And if you’ve done it, the proof stands undeniably right in front of you.

That’s an easy sell, and a healthy, worthwhile sell.

This Is Not Your Father’s Home Based Business

When we began paying commissions on sales of Beachbody products to our customers, with an incentive for them to bring in additional reps to spread the word, the only customer complaints pertained to the seedy reputation of other multi-level marketers as a “pyramid scheme”.

That reputation is largely due to the millions of families who are still stuck with inventory of soap, pills, and water filters from business ventures of the past, and the pressure to effectively become the sales manager to your own friends and family members.

After just six months of operation, I can proudly say, we are none of any of that. We are promoters of health and fitness. And for the people who get in and get active with Million Dollar Body, the opportunity is anything but “traditional” network marketing, but with every bit of potential for financial reward.

Actually, I think I’ve probably offended more network marketers than we’ve signed up because of my convictions. (I sometimes speak my mind a little too freely. Ask me about the “Pyruvate Incident” sometime.) The reason we may not be immediately attractive to network marketing heavyweights is our commitment to making this home based business opportunity about getting people healthy and active - FOR REAL! That in itself is a multi-billion dollar opportunity if we stay focused on the real goal. The fact that I won’t pitch the money potential first and the health benefits second makes me look foolish to those who have made their big bucks hawking business opportunities. The fact that we don’t require people to invest thousands of dollars in inventory looks counter-intuitive to the folks who are used just to selling “the next hot breakthrough”. But imagine how many millions of people who need a friend to lend them a hand in getting more active would appreciate something that could also earn them an extra income! THAT’S OPPORTUNITY with REAL substance!

And that’s why this concept and the Beachbody faithful who are helping it grow are so special.

Exercise will NEVER go out of style. No drug can replace exercise. No electrical stimulation device can make it easier. If you want your body to work and feel good, you need to use it, or you will feel the consequences sooner than you expect. Eating right is simple. We show you how to achieve it. That has value to everyone around you. We are committed to helping people understand how to do it. That is the word we are spreading. Beachbody customer complaints generally stem from those who didn’t have the support or accountability to stay with the program they purchased. Million Dollar Body changes all that by connecting people together in a “network” of support. That’s the revolution that we’re committed to creating here!

The miraculous stories of people who rediscover exercise and how their lives change because of it is the heart of what we do. The financial opportunity and how it has already helped people pay off their mortgages, pay for their kids school, or buy the car they always wanted are also incredible and meaningful. The two go hand in hand with what is so substantial about this opportunity.
The other day in a meeting I made a point about how I would pitch this if I could be a coach. I wouldn’t whip out photos of the new car my commissions bought me, or the flat screen TV being installed at the house thanks to my rank advancements, I would show my before and after photos, and tell my friend that they can do it too if they make a simple “20 in 30″ promise…

“I hear you complaining about your energy, about how your clothes fit, and how you don’t like the way your body looks… If you want to change all that, I promise you, you can. And it can generate an income for you too. If you want to get results, I will help you; All you need to do is promise me two things: (1) Get started on something: Sign up, pick a program, and do at least 20 workouts in 30 days. And (2) Pass it on: Ask two people whose health you care about to do the same thing. That’s it. If you don’t see results in those 30 days, you can quit and get the money back for the product. But I know you will see results, and your life will change. And people will ask you if you’re on a diet. And you’ll tell them about this. And you will be in business. That’s how easy things happen when you make that simple decision: Commit to at least 20 workouts in 30 days. All you need to do right now is stop thinking about it, and make those two promises to me: Get started, and pass it on.”

Will some of our coaches make a lot of money by signing up, getting two more to sign up, and qualifying to help support our customers to get success? Absolutely. And some won’t make a thing or care about it. They’ll do it so they can feel the same thing I get to feel every day I get a success story email.

We’re entering a period of very dramatic growth. The lead pool is going to accelerate in the next few months. The coaches who get in now and share our vision of helping people get healthy are the ones who deserve the financial rewards. The kind of coaches I want to help us build this will be a positive force of health and peer support, and they will reap the rewards. I don’t care if you wear a tie (I don’t), I don’t care if you spend your money on toys or education, I don’t care if you walk, jog, or crush P90X. All I care about is that you get healthy, and that you contact your coaches and customers from time to time to help them stay accountable to their plan as well.

You are the elite, and together we’re changing the state of health in this country!
